 "Buffet Crampon" or "Evette & Schaeffer"

I was searching the Internet for information about a B-flat clarinet that I own and ran accross this forum.

The "Buffet Crampon & Cie" logo is on the clarinet's leather case, plastic reed case, and mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has four ligature alignment bands: 1 above the logo and 3 below the logo.

After reading a few messages, I looked more closely at the logos that are etched into the tuning barrel, upper and lower joints, and bell. Although the same oval is used as in the "Buffet Crampon & Cie" logo, the name "Everette & Schaeffer" appears. Above the oval appears the words "MASTER MODEL". Below the oval are the words "Modele Buffet Crampon". The phrases follow the arc of the oval.

The serial number, K7631, is etched in the back and at the bottom of the upper and lower joints. For those of you that remarked about flaws, there is a small chip of wood missing from the bottom of the upper joint where the serial number was stamped.

With the exception of the mouthpiece, the entire body of the clarinet is wood. The metal work is "German silver". There are decorative metal bands at the top and bottom of the tuning barrel and bell, as well as, one at the top of the lower joint.

Was this made by Buffet Crampon or made for Buffet Crampon? What is the significance of the Evette & Schaeffer mark?

The "Master Model" badged by Evette and Schaeffer is one of the bargain priced gems in clarinet circles. It's every bit the rival of Buffet's pricier models of the same age. They don't command high resale prices, but they're GOOD!

At the top of this page, you will find the SEARCH field;
enter "Master Model" and research the extensive discussions on the topic.
