I'd like to invest in a new bass clarinet mouthpiece...preferably under $200 (around $100 would be great) But despite price, I'd just like to know what is the best.
Thanks!

Some of the best I have played are Clark Fobes' and Walter Grabner's

Don't forget Dave McClune as well! And the price is about right.

The whole point is that there is no objective "best". There's only the best for YOU. To determine that, you would have to try many, differing bass mouthpieces, no matter the claims you read on this or any other bboard - myself included. It really doesn't matter who plays who's mouthpiece - who endorses who's mouthpiece. It really is irrelevant.
Perhaps the more appropriate question may be what mouthpieces have others found to work and for what reason. I doubt that you would receive an answer such as "so and so plays _____ mouthpiece".

Of course, this is an excellent point. Often you find the question posted "what is the best- reed, ligature, clarinet. etc."
It is key to get some ideas as to what may be out there and then try as much as you can and find what you like.
The question always seems to me like asking "What is the best fruit?"

The mouthpieces that I liked the most so far are Fobes, Vandoren, Pomarico and Selmer.
I've tried many other mouthpiece that I didn't like that much but I won't list them because I don't want to make you prejudice against them.
Good luck.

My short list includes Fobes, Grabner, Garrett, Pomarico, Borbeck, Hite, and Selmer. I would point out that of these, I would expect the last four to need some amount of refacing in order to play the way I like, whereas the first three would have a high probability of playing just fine 'as-received'.
