There was some rumour in the brass world that Buffet were going to buy Besson, who were a sister company when Buffet were owned by The Music Group and by B&H.
Instead, they have bought Courtois:

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

Maybe Buffet will produce some high quality metal clarinet? A contrabass clarinet in the making?

I hadn't thought of it that way. But if they didn't do it while under common ownership with Besson, why would they do it with Courtois?
I do wonder whether there will be a realignment of the European manufacturers, as happened in the USA some years ago. Courtois are keeping their links with Hoyer. Buffet are presumably still outsourcing to Schreiber (though a recent thread questioned this). I do wonder whether all these firms will grow closer together in order to compete with Steinway/Conn-Selmer/Leblanc in the USA and Yamaha in Japan. Just having firms under common ownership doesn't seem to have worked, maybe a full merger might?

What happens when a clarinet marries a trombone? Will they come out with a claribone or a tromnet?

Besson is still around. I received dealer info (although I'm not a dealer!!) in December with MSRP and dealer prices. They also sent a nice Christmas Card and DVD showing their brass manufacturing process.

Correction -- Besson is not around. They are in what is called administration in the UK. The company has ceased to operate and we (dealers) are waiting to hear what comes next. I suspect it will continue in some form or another since there are some good designs and popular instruments in their line, but we shall see. They need a white knight with deep pockets, and there aren't many that have a great love for instrument manufacturers.

French Besson or English Besson? Are there not two no-longer related companies with the same name? (I believe there used to be anyway.) Kind of like German Daimler (Benz) and English Daimler (Jaguar). Whatever.....
