Just found an old "jacques albert -fils - bruxelles " clarinet at an attic shop.
A few small cracks, but all keys are there .

It seems to be a hybrid system .( 13 keys , two rings on the lowest notes for the right hand - no rollers on the pinky keys ) This should made the instrument a mix of the albert and the boehm system.

As far as i know :
============
Eugene albert himself ( expostions around 1860-1870 for albert systems )
Two sons with jacques albert as specialised clarinet maker ( works certainly from 1900 till 1945 in brussels - goes to france during WWII , and dies in brussels in 1960 )
The boehm system became increasingly popular and nearly the only choice around 1930 . This should place this instrument somewhere between 1880 and 1925 .

Anyone a better guess or more info on the start / end dates of jacques albert career as clarinet maker or the existence of hybrid systems ??

Best Regards

What Boehm features does this clarinet have? Is it not just an Albert (or "Simple System").

-----------

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

This just a standard simple (or Albert) system - with an additional side Bb key on the top joint.

well , as far as i can read in the info i have ,
13 keys / 2 rings should be the latest version of the simple system or albert system and from then on , there were versions with 14 or 15 keys and sometimes more rings then on the standard albert but less then on the boehm system. Also corrections and additions for the bb and A throat area
were added .

Yes, I agree, a simple system Albert, I have one or so much like it, I'd put the date about 1880-90's, as the "patent C#" looks like the earliest version [no set screw adjustment, corking only]. Thots anyone? Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
