Is there such a thing call clarinet mute? as i saw that there is this things called the clarimute that come with the claripatch pro set. Does it really works?

The ClariMute, on the ClariPatch site, is a plug that fits in the top of the upper joint. According to the ClariPatch site, it prevents the instrument from sounding and lets you practice blowing. http://www.claripatch.com/en/IfUProEN.pdf

Making the clarinet play softly, like a muted trumpet, is problematic. A trumpet-style mute in the bell makes no difference (except on the lowest 2 or 3 notes), since most of the sound is emitted through the tone holes.

People who've tried it on sax say that the bag greatly increases blowing pressure, and even the maker admits that it's not a complete solution.

How about a large perspex cabinet (kinda like a fish tank) with two holes for your arms to go into and another for the barrel and mouthpiece to stick out from while the rest of the clarinet is held inside.
Even better would be a double-glazed version for late night practice if you live in a block of flats.

Berlioz, in his "Lelio"--the rarely performed sequel to the Fantastique, calls for muted clarinets. My understanding is that this was done with a leather bag/box with holes for the mouthpiece and the player's two hands. You called it pretty close, Chris!

Imagine the fun if the box or cabinet was hermetically sealed (with strong neoprene seals around the barrel and player's arms) - the air pressure inside will pretty soon cause the clarinet to pack up, and even backfire.
