Hello,
Phil Muncy (muncywinds.com) would be my bet in North Carolina. If you see him, tell him hello for me, please!

I'd second that. You'll find Muncy Winds in Boone, NC, and you'll find them a pleasure to do business with.

While I've had no contact with Muncy and their reputation is VG, I'd consider David Spiegelthal in Virginia, "dspieg@earthlink.net" having done much mp buisness and bass clar talk/exchange with him. He is a sponser here and I consider him a knowldgable friend. Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

you could try edwards music in fayetteville. thats where i go to get my horn fixed. ive actually seen the guy do it right in front of me. they are good repairman and arent expensive. you could also wait a lil because they are fixing to open the largest repair shop on the east coast in hope mills about 5miles south of fayetteville right of I-95 so you get easy access

Donald Hinson, Whiteville, North Carolina -- specializes in vintage clarinets including Buffets. You can find him via Google or email him at bud@intrstar.net. Located on the coast near the South Carolina border. Very meticulous and reasonably priced. Among other clients, Hinson does clarinet restorations for a highly-regarded recording artist who plays older clarinets.

I also recommend Muncy Winds in Boone. Although Phil Muncy does a terrific job, be aware that he is also expensive. However, his assistant (can't remember his name) is also a very good repair man and charges significantly less. Of course this was the case a year ago..things may have changed. Other than that, it's a great store and I highly recommend it for anything...clarinet buying, sheet music, cases, reeds, etc. Most of the workers are clarinetists which even makes the trip more worth while! Try one of his Muncy Barrels if you get a chance!

Depending on where in the foothills you are, Raleigh may be just as close as Boone, and I can't believe no one has yet mentioned Marsh Woodwinds. It's a spectacular shop run by wonderful people, and although I haven't had work done in awhile, the prices have always been very reasonable. It's downtown on Hillsborough Street, just a couple of blocks from the Capital Building (a really beautiful area). You could make a nice day trip of it.
