I dream of going to Columbia U, and many people have said that they've studies with Opperman there, but I've looked everywhere (googling, Columbia site, encyclopedia!) and with my research there has been no connection with Opperman and Columbia. Does (or has) he teach there, and is he still there?
Thanks,
Nick G

The bio of him in the Velocity studies (copyright 1999) has him at the Brooklyn College in NYC.

I don't think Kal has any remaining connection with a school. (Steve Hartman will correct me if I'm wrong.) He's in his 80s and takes only a few students.
He's a genius, but a **very** demanding teacher. Don't even think of studying with him unless you can devote every minute of every day to the clarinet.
You can of course go to Columbia and study with anyone you like, whether or not associated with the school.

Mr. Opperman is not currently associated with any school.
He continues to teach privately in NYC.
And yes - as Mr. Shaw said above - Opperman is "a genius and a very demanding teacher." He is also (one of many other wonderful qualities) a very generous teacher.
I can't thank Mr. Opperman enough fo all the "demands" he has, and continues to, put on me.
