I'm looking for chamber music by Brazilian composers not named Villa-Lobos. Any suggestions?

Google "Brazilian Tango." This stuff seems to favor the clarinet and a small accorian.

It was developing at about the same time as Scott Joplin. Much of it is adlibitum.

Check out the fabulous Israeli clarinetist, Anat Cohen, and her new group,
The Choro Ensemble. Their new CD is awesome, and Anat is great...!
They do the "Brazilian thing" and more.

In addition to his clarinet concerto, Daniel Wolff has written some short works for solo clarinet and might have chamber works that I am not aware of. You can find information about him as well as contact information at:

http://www.danielwolff.com/

He might also know of other Brazilian composers who have written chamber music with clarinet. I have found him to be very pleasant and helpful in all of my communications with him.

Best regards,
jnk

Richard Stolztman has a CD out (actualy it came out in 1991!) called 'Brasil' it's a bit jazzy though, not sure thats what you're looking for but it sure is Brazilian flavoured! - Eddie Gomez (Bass) Gary Burton (vibes) Danny Gottlieb (Drums) Chuck Loeb and many more...you can find it here

Agreed on the Daniel Wolff (I've played some of his music) reference and Stoltzman's CD is a fun one. .

I suggest you try the Brazilian clarinet quintet - "Sujeito a Guincho". The quintet brings some of the finest Brazilian players.
