 hite mpc question
Author: Nathan
Date:   2006-01-05 01:22

I just received a new Hite D mpc, and am wondering what the film/tape is on the top of the mpc. It seems too thin to be a mpc patch, is it just to prevent scratches? Also, if I remove this, will there be any sticky residue? Thanks.

The tape is, in fact, a mouthpiece patch. It serves its purpose well. It doesn't feel thin when you're playing, it's really comfortable.
I've never taken the tape off of any of my Hite's. But I'm sure there would be some sticky residue on it, but it will eventually go away. Just rubbing it off will do.

This may, or may not be related -

I've often ordered from WW/BW, for my students, multiple versions of the same mouthpiece/facing.

Some of the mouthpieces had a piece of blue mouthpiece tape put on them, but others did not.

The ones which came packaged in the original SEALED boxes, did not. The ones that arrived loose, or in a box that was not sealed, had the blue mouthpiece tape on them.

My conclusion was that those particular mouthpieces had been returned, repackaged, restocked and then sold...GBK

David Hite put the tape you describe on all the mpcs he sent out. They were meant to protect the mouthpiece from scratches. They also worked well left on as the standard mp patch, similar to the clear Blayman patch.

My advise is to leave it on. It helps me hear myself better, and I change mine whenever it gets worn out. The "glue" on the patch is easy to remove, just use a little mild soap and water.

I noticed that the unpatched space between mpc tip and patch is a bit wide, at least for my taste. I peeled the patch off (no residue, btw) and moved it a bit more to the tip.
The material appears to be the same as Yamaha's except that the latter is transparent.
