Overture to the Abduction from the Seraglio

Am searching in vain after hearing our UK Classic fm radio playing what was said to be a Tribensee arrangement of this piece for a German streetband. It was great, BUT I cannot find this anywhere. The playlist for 1/1/05 is annoyingly not available. Have searched here also.

I have found only a Wendt arrangement on CCM (Cincin) website.

As this is a big Mozart year the wind section of our S.O. is looking for just such (a) piece(s).

Could be some of the info is corrupt but will email them for info.

Anyone have instant recall on this one ?

I'm only aware of the Johann Nepomunk Wendt arrangement of Seraglio(published by Musica Rara/Breitkopf) and another much longer anonymous arrangement that has been championed by Bastiaan Blomhert as being by Mozart, although many dispute that. Some have also suggested that the Wendt arrangement may also be by Mozart (see: David Whitwell).

I don't know about a Triebensee arrangement, although he arranged so many operas and overtures that it's possible. By the way, Wendt and Triebensee were both oboists and related by marriage.

My group played the Wendt arrangement of Seraglio in December - it's really quite fun.

All the major Mozart operas were transcribed by either Wendt (Seraglio, Figaro), Triebensee (Don Giovanni) or Heidenreich (Magic Flute). I forget off hand who transcribed Cosi, Tito, and Idomeneo. But they're all available from Musica Rara/Brietkopf. My personal favorite is the Magic Flute by Heidenreich. I somehow feel that the German Singspiels transrcibe best for wind band (harmonie).

I think what has happened here is that the DJ on classic fm played a cd which contained both Triebensee and Wendt trascriptions and simply mixed up the details.

And TKS to both of you for enlivening an otherwise dull afternoon in OKLA, where we are hoping than the destructive grass fires of Sunday do NOT repeat. We have an annual OK-Mozart week [here] in June, and I'll tell friends of the Mozart transcriptions for that interesting Harmonie group. Don,

you won't need a basset horn for any of the harmonie opera arrangements. If you want to play the Gran Partitta, that's another story.

Also, a Spanish publisher (Dinsic) has recently issued Vincent Martin i Soler's octet for winds, which does call for basset horns instead of clarinets (although alternative clarinet parts are provided). Mozart quoted from Soler's opera Una Cosa Rara during the harmonie dinner scene of Don Giovanni; the Soler octet includes melodies for Una Cosa Rara, so you could program that with Mozart harmonies and use your Alto/Basset Horn.

TKS again, Larry, I ?mis-interpreted the inst. below the French horn in your FINE "hellgateharmonie" Site pic as either a Basset [or an Alto] and having tried to play the B, none too well however, opted to it. I like small groups, having played in Ger and Dixie bands, and will try to procure an arrangement or so, to provide an old-man's challenge beyond comm band. You-all have made my day !! Don

Classic fm replied and this piece is one of many on Philips 4225452 (in UK) or Philips 22545 in US.

I've ordered it and eagerly await receipt of this 3CD boxed set by Nederlands Wind Ensemble. the price.............................$4.99 (?what?) plus postage from a very busy internet music seller.
Not sure yet on the transcriber, but I'm not missing this set of large and small wind pieces. It's entitled "Mozart - Rareties and Surprises"
