Hi all,
I'll be vacationing in NYC in January, but will need to be practicing during that period due to some upcoming auditions. Anyone know of good practice rooms for rent in midtown?
Preferably I'm looking for something without a punk band next door. :-)
Thanks,
Jeffreyc

Will you be staying in a hotel?? If so, at least in the Midwest, one can ask to use a conference room or the like for practicing (could save you some $$$). Did that before All-State band try-outs my freshman year!!!

Ken,
I thought Caruso lived at the Ansonia - or maybe he lived at both?

larryb -
I think you're right about the Ansonia. Thanks for the correction.
The New York City air pollution scrambles the memory cells.

Charles Colin (315 West 53 Street, New York, NY 10019 (212) 581-1480) has practice rooms too, though most are pre-rented on a monthly basis. Might be a good idea to give a call, though...they're pretty darn cheap, IF you can get one.

Also, West Side Dance Project has practice rooms--I used to use their rooms a lot at their previous location, and if the rooms in the new location are anything like the ones I used, they're adequate but best of all (again) cheap.

No, Mr. Colin caught the bus some time ago. I don't remember exactly when. I believe one or two of his sons run the place now
Apropos of nothing, someone ought to compile a list of NYC music-related landmarks that are still around, same as ever, much as they have always been. Patelson's, maybe, and Colin, and Shetler Studios (the one on 8th Ave.), maybe Frank Music, Roseland...the Liederkranz townhouse off 5th, I guess. Not counting Carnegie Hall or CAMI Hall, because they're primarily performance venues.
And the brain runs dry.....
