I've heard about that one. I go to IU band camp every summer, and besides that Interlochen is the only one my band director says is worth it. It's expensive, though...... I'd love to go there sometime. I'd say go for it, I'm sure it's one of the best places out there, no question.

I was in the high school boys division from 1969-1971....Interlochen is very intense and competitive. That being said, and if you take the competition with a grain of salt (what's really important is your development as a musician, not your seat assignment), you will find Interlochen to be a life-changing experience. You will learn more about music than most people even know exists. You will learn things about yourself that will help you through all your life. You will make lifelong friendships. And you will see how truly powerful music is. Keep an open mind, try everything you can think of, learn from your student colleagues as well as from your instructors, and prepare for the time of your life....I envy you

i don't think i'm going to go though, i also made tanglewood and my band teacher and private teacher both suggested that I go to Tanglewood.

Mr Thomas....I remember you very well in 1970!!!! I studied with Mr Forrest, but you were my section coach in Symphonic Band. We had many discussions about the "soft cushion" embrochure concept, tounging speed development through relaxation, and generally inserting joy into music...and I remember every nuance of a striking, emotional, technically brilliant performance of the Poulenc Sonata you gave on a faculty recital. I remember you taught at a college in Kentucky or Virginia, and among my student colleagues, you had the reputation of a perfect southern gentleman who lit up the room with his smile and music when he walked in....I learned alot about the inner workings of communicating with music, and the use of technique as a means as opposed to an end from you, and have been forever greatful. I hope you and yours are doing well...Please drop me a line at steventrish@mindspring.com
