I find that when I'm practicing tonguing, my tongue sometimes starts to bleed, making it painful to continue playing (at least I truly know what part of my tongue I'm using- tip!)...has anyone else had this, and if so, do you know of any herbs or other things can induce faster healing so I can resume my articulation practice?

|First off I would like to say I do not have that problem. |This is a remedy that I use when my fingers get pinched in |between the old keys of my bass clarinet.

|Get a spoon or somthing that is sanatized and is |silverplated. Then put it on the wuned for about 2 minutes |with presure. This seems to stop the bleeding and to make |the cut scab over move rapidly.

This is something you should definitely check out with a teacher; if you have a regular teacher, ask him/her, if not, see about getting one lesson just for your problem from someone in the area. You should not have to worry about pain when you tongue properly, so you should get this evaluated as quickly as possible. A teacher who can see what you're doing will be able to give you much better suggestions. Hope this helps!

I've only experienced this problem a couple of time in my life. Both times were when I was performing 4-6 hours per day for several days. It wasn't very bad, but did cause some concern. After I cut down on the playing time the problem went away, but that's not possible when your out on a gig. I just used ice on my tongue as much as possible. That seemed to help.

I agree with Katherine. Tonguing should be a very delicate process -- like a butterfly, really -- and should not cause the kind of physical problems you are having.
