 Buffet A without a Barrel?
Author: mgoetze

Has anyone heard of a Buffet soprano in A which, instead of a barrel, has an exceptionally long top joint? Any idea how old or of what quality such a model might be?

Should be before the 1920s. There's something like that, and I have seen it quite a few times.

A frined of mine has one of these, although it is a Bb, not an A. I am pretty sure his was made around 1900.

I've seen several like this on the French eB... site.

The only modern ones I've seen like this are by Orsi - they have 2 diferent length metal inserts instead of barrels which fit into the long top joint.

Perhaps this list of manufacturing dates will help.
