can you take a regular ligature and flip it around and make it look like an inverted one without sacrificing any tone or mouthpiece issues?

Sure, as long as the ligature doesn't slip and it seems to hold the reed OK. Keep in mind you'll then have to tighten the screws with the left hand. Neither the mouthpiece nor the tone quality really care.

Fot that matter, feel free to put a ligature on sideways or any which way you want. Depends on which way YOU feel gives you the best sound/response.

Very true, Alexi - IF ---- there is any importance as to what actually holds the reed to the mp, bars [Bonade], rods [Rovner], dots [Luyben], or others. I like the inverts, but can't find diffs, I do reverse Rovner-types, to simulate Bonades, and change the screw for my rt hand access. Simple, Don

My teacher says that a lot of people think ligatures sound better inverted but it really throws the reed's response off if it's original purpose was the "standard" style. They get this idea from the professional ones or ones that were mean't for this purpose.

It's a prank as old as the hills done by kids to get attention...
