I own and a play a Pruefer B wich I inherited from my Grandfather on my Mother's side. He played it in New York on the Radio and I think in a Orch. I am trying to find some history on it from my Aunt. The serial No is 2764 and is signatured by Carol Fisher Exclusive Distribution. I have no Idea how old it might be. I also have a A horn wich was used at the same time. Can anybody help me with this. Thank You

There is a list of serial numbers and dates right here on sneezy. Go to the menu and pick Equipment. Then pick How Old is My from the next menu. Finally pick the "Artley, Jupiter, Preuffer, and Rossi" from the next menu. Pruefer is simply spelling wrong in this menu item. From the list there, it looks like they made about 3500 clarinets a year. So based on that list, one could estimate yours as being from about 1932 or so.

Pruefer no longer makes clarinets but used to be one of the better US clarinet makers.

I also meant to add that it is "Carl Fisher" not "Carol Fisher." They used to be a major distributor a lot of clarinets and sheet music. Today they no long distribute instruments just sheet music but they are one of the major companies in this field.

Thank you,Dee, my Pr is #2601, which prob. dates it in the late 1920's, will look it up. Mine is a single UJ-LJ wood with additional keys , 7th ring, art. C#/G#, alt. Ab/Eb, cracked and needing more TLC than I can give it! J B, are you interested in a restoration?? Seems to be as good or better than the [then] competing Bettoney and Penzel-Muellers. Don

Extrapolating from the list also puts yours in the early 1930s.
