Author: Hiroshi

Muncy reeds sells wetstone polished GS reeds.I am now considering to use a one box for trial. They sells once wet stone polished, twice polished, and 3X polished boxes and their prices are once<twice<third.

Does anyone tried differently polished GS reeds? I would like to know what she/he felt the difference.

Thank you in advance!

Effectively, whith it's brochure and pricing information of Jan. 1st 1998 the Gebhard Steuer Company (Lindau/Bodensee, Germany) redefined the assortment - now no note of multiple polisched reeds nor of reeds made according to a pro musicans style.
Moreover, I didn't try different polished german basset horn reeds. As it was noted "multiple wet polishings within a week" I think this should increase the durability of the reeds.

I just played GS reeds (Bb soprano clarinet, French cut)for the first time (I got the one that are polished 1x). I overestimated the strength of the reeds (according to the people at MuncyWinds, they run about 1 strength harder than other reeds of that numerical strength - my experience is that they are not quite that hard). The good news is that they played really nicely, even though they were soft. The bad news is that apparently the company is doing some retooling and those reeds will not be available again for quite awhile (the individual at MuncyWinds estimated that it would be summer before they had them again:-(. She went on to tell me that one of the changes being made is that the reeds will no longer be play tested etc...
