Recently there was a thread on the board discussing, among other things, the relative value of doing research on the internet versus the pubic library.
What about online libraries?
http://www.questia.com/
This morning someone emailed me about Questia. I did a quick check on the Questia website and found 2387 hits for clarinet, and 261 hits for the exact phrase "bass clarinet."
Then I checked the bulletin board for any references to Questia. There was only one, from Don Berger, on the topic of the phrase "liquorice stick."
Questia is a good site to add to your favorites folder.

Hi Markael - I appreciate your ref. . Yes, I found Questia to be very interesting for further exploration, will do. It does go deeply [so far as I have progressed] into technical subject literature, the retrievals, via "broad [generic] searching" such as your [clarinet {MC/GBK}] trials, will need narrowing to be useful, perhaps they have a Search of a Search capability. The tech resource I often use is the USPTO Patent Databases, where, with some skill, one can search back to "Genesis" [pioneer pats] by virtue of examiner citations of prior art including literature . Once finding "good books" and other publications, I ask our library research persons for "inter-library loan", at times going to the ?ultimate? Library of Congress for "rare-birds". I hope other researchers will chime in here. TKS for the start, Don
Thanx, Mark, Don
