All this talk about key's and colors and emotions etc. made me remember a statement I heard on a Met Opera Broadcast. I didn't hear the original staement just a quote. "The clarinet never lies in Mozart Operas". I assume he means the clarinet part supports or repeats a "True statement". Anyone know the scource?

Gee, this depends on your definition of lying. I am thinking of the brief quote from the Marriage of Figaro the clarinet plays in Don Giovanni.
Karl Leister once said, "the secret of the clarinet is silence." I don't know what the hell that means either but at least I know the source.

Perhaps a poetic way of describing one's articulation ability?
