Has anyone tried this program?? What do you think of it.

(I have been trying to get onto Coda Music's site without luck)

I have it and it works well. I got the old "Vivace" program before they changed the name to SmartMusic. Coda's accompaniments are rather expensive I believe, but unlike play along CD's if you have the microphone, the music will follow you if you slow down, speed up or skip a note or two. It doesn't seem to do this flawlessly, but decently. I really got it for my students to use for solo accompaniments since my piano skills are limited. I really enjoy the tuner feature and am glad to see that Coda is now selling it as a stand alone program.

I also use SmartMusic. I had a little experience with Vivace. I found that practice time went very quickly. My last project was the Rondo of Mozart's Concerto. I could never get to that magic tempo of 88 (I know, but it's still printed there at the top of the page, screaming at me!). The practice loop feature is great. I worked the Rondo up to 92 beats a minute. No, I didn't perform it that way, but it did wonders for my confidence.

My band program is buying a computer, SmartMusic, and a cart for each of our four practice rooms. We have started a library of about 50 accompaniment disks, heavily weighted towards the students in the first three years of instruction.

They say the jazz disks even swing!

Every band program/studio should have one.

It's ok, but my stuff is better.

No computer to be stuck with. Portable, and sounds really good. Play the CD on any stereo system.

And I'm a sponsor of this - they used to be, but pulled out.

No, Dave, they didn't pull out. They were kind enough to give me a free copy of Finale to allow me to convery Oliver Seely's Finale files to PDF files so everyone could share in Oliver's music. I gave them a free sponsorship for donating $400.00 worth of software. After a year and a half I took them off since I had paid for a new upgrade and other things from Finale (and the paid sponsorships started covering my software costs).

I purchased it about a year ago. Was downloading tons of midis from this a link on this site (klimowic?) I REALLY like that it follows me and I don't have to follow it...I would highly suggest that you purchase the foot pedal though...I don't have it yet, but feel it would be much easier than hitting the keyboard when done with a credenza, etc. Am trying to get back into private instruction and thought it would be helpful for that too. Have 2 teenagers I thought would use it...but I thought wrong. The biggest drawback I see right now is that we have 1 computer and 4 people in the household and don't find alot of me time to use the programs...also downstairs close to the tv room and god forbid I interfere with evening tv. Looking to get a cheapy computer to put upstairs specifically for this reason. Maybe I'll get back to playing more...I really miss it. Hope this helps!
