I was looking into buying a plastic reed to play on and I was wondering if anyone had any comments about them. Are they good in quality and do they last a long time?

Hi,
About the plastic reed, I don't know if the last a long time. But I do know that you get a whole diff. sound out of your clarinet. As with all things you like it or not but in my case it sounded a lot like a very cheep plastic clarinet.
All I can say is try it and find out.
Good Luck

Casey,
I've used a Legere #3 1/2 on a 5RVL MP for about a month with good results. They seem to me to be about 1/2 strength weaker than the V12. What's really great about the Legere reed is their exchange policy. You can buy the strength you think you require and then if it's not correct return the reed to the factory and try another strength! By the way they do NOT resell the exchanged reeds. Anyway the Legere's sound pleases my old ears. They seem to be in short supply.

I have not had good luck with them, but I know players who like them and use them professionally. I have tried 3, 3.5 and 4s on various mouthpieces, and the occassinal buzzy sound on some notes bothers me. I have found them to be pretty close to the V-12s in strength, maybe a tad softer.

I love my legeres. I use a strength 3 - and I think it sounds just as good - or even better, at times - than my cane Vandorens. I used it at my seating audition for band, and the judge complimented me on my tone and was very suprised I was getting such a warm tone on a plastic reed. I highly reccomend the Legeres.
