 solo & ensemble

Hi,

My daughter is required to play an ensemble this year for school. She is a 7th grader and 2nd year on her horn. (saxophone) Her and a friend want to play a duet. The other player is clarinet. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to look for clarinet/alto sax duets? The school has only a few selections for players and many of them will be performing the same piece. Band director has suggested buying your own music.
The local music stores can order music but don't have any in stock. I am just totally lost as to where or what music I should be looking for. I know it has to be at least 90 seconds in length and needs to be in the classical music category. Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks,
Dana

I am not aware of any duets or duet book specifically for alto saxophone and clarinet, especially on an elementary level.

The best solution would be to look for a duet book for alto saxophne and tenor saxophone. The clarinet player would play the tenor sax part.

This duet book, arranged and edited by Harry Gee, is excellent for students who have only played a few years:

You might take a look at this series:

The book is available for all band instruments (you would need to buy two -- one for each instrument). Parts are interchangeable (i.e., either instrument can play either of the duet parts).

I've seen the version that this same editor puts out for trios, and they are not bad. Very accessible, but not brain-dead.

Good luck!

Susan
