from France, with the model "DC20" and serial number F102843, identical to the clarinets marketed in the US as R13?
Also, how would you compare the sound of an older horn like this to a newer Buffet? Thanks for your help.

I can't help you with the "DC20" model question, but I can affirmatively say that a Buffet R13 from 1969 is quite fine. I've played on one for 20+ years now and love my instrument. Wouldn't know what to do if I lost her.
I know that GBK also prefers R13s from this era...

Are you sure it is DC20 and not BC20 ?
I'm sure the BC20 existed. It was a model in between a student and pro modul, if I'm right.

A Buffet clarinet with a serial number beginning with "F" is tuned to 442-444 rather than 440. So no, it is not the same as an R13 sold in the USA.

In my experience, I have found that Buffet clarinets from the mid to late 1960's and early 1970's are some of the best sounding clarinets I've ever owned and/or played...GBK

I'm puzzled that an "F" signifies a different tumning, as I have played this clarinet in a number of orchestras & bands without having any apparent out-of-tune issues.

I think the 'f' numbers pertain to the Buffet 'European pitch' range of clarinets..
I own a BC20 full boehm, and I have had no pitch problems playing with US instruments... My clarinet was purchased in Australia in 1970. At the time, this was the top of the range Buffet available in this country.
The BC 20/R13 issue has been discussed at length, I think in this forum...just try a search... I love my BC20!
Cheers,
Chris
