 New Book on the Sax
Author: Ken Shaw 2017
Date:   2005-10-20 14:59

There's a new book on the history of the saxophone: The Devil's Horn: The Story of the Saxophone, From Noisy Novelty to King of Cool, by Michael Segell.

It got a short but ecstatic review in the San Francisco Chronicle,

Many TKS, Ken - I noticed in the S F article the "*printable version", is this the article or a bit of the book? Having only a few pages copied from "The Brass and Saxophone" book [on Selmers], I'll look on Amaz and B&N to see if its available. Does it go into Leblanc's attempts at competing with Selmer in the 40's and 50's, I have a couple of the Lebs. Lots of saxsy questions. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Thanks, Ken--looks fascinating! I just ordered it (used) from Amazon for $12.50 plus S & H.

How is it possible that with a publishing date of 15 October 2005 there are already 42 used copies of this book available from Amazon?

Re Amazon. Check the local news sites. Several publishers are already unhappy that Amazon is selling "used" volumes of their latest "new" books. I will be looking for more interesting reading about this.

Gandalf -

Books are sent to reviewers months before the official publication date. Particularly for a specialized book like this, only a few reviewers actually read it.

One of a reviewer's few perks is selling review copies to bookstores and now through Amazon.
