I am a serious amateur clarinet player and have been playing first chair in my local college concert band, chamber group, and symphony orchestra for the past three years. About 2 years ago I’d been on a quest for the perfect mouthpiece and tried just about every high end mouthpiece on the market. I thought that I had found what I had been searching for in a Glotin Chedeville with a Medium (1.04mm) tip opening. Coupled with a Vandoren Rue Lepic 3.5/3.5+ reed it gave me the sound/articulation that I had wanted at that time. However, this performance season I kept getting comments from my musical directors that my sound was too bright, particularly at the high end of the scale and could I produce a darker tone. So, after playing with reeds, barrels, and ligatures without much improvement, I once again resumed my search for that “perfect” mouthpiece. And I found it in the newly developed Behn Vintage mouthpiece. If you too are in search of that ever elusive perfect mouthpiece and you are willing to pay for it (it ain’t cheap folks!) then I strongly recommend you check out Bred Behn’s website, www.benmouthpieces.com, to find out more about this magnificent mouthpiece. I played my Vintage in a concert this past weekend and I (and my director) was thrilled with the results!

Neil,
Just an idea that popped in my head, but perhaps you might want to send your glotin to Brad to get refaced so you can have a better backup. If his facings work so well with you, why not take that glotin chedeville and have it worked on by him too?
Would cost a fraction of your new vintage and would probably come out playing similarly.
