Does anyone have a good fingering for an altissimo G on an alto clarinet (or any other low clarinet)? Something convenient to get to and from altissimo E would be nice. My usual standby (1-3/1-3) does not even speak on this horn.

Hi Joanne - While I play so much more on B Cl, than on alto, and almost never need to play above the staff [thats the realm of the sops !!], I generally use the sop fingerings on my Selmers, or try out others for better response/pitch, a case in point was a high Eb in Der Rosenk. Waltzes [band arr.]. I have found other alts. by just taking off fingers, using the trill etc keys, and playing around [showing off ??] during warmup. Try it, Don

I use the same fingering as I use on soprano, which in my opinion is comfortable to go from and to altisimo E.
R T 1/2x x o x x o Eb/Ab
In case it is not clear here.
R = Register key
T = Thumb hole
1/2x = Half open - the small hole on the key is left open but the key is pressed down
o = Hole open
x = Hole closed
Eb/Ab = The right hand pinky Eb/Ab key

I use my standard Bb fingerings on my Selmer alto and bass.
My high G is different from yours though - I usually have something like
T-23/12- Eb

This is why I've had on the top joint of my Prestige bass a connection fitted from the E/B vent key (which is under the 2nd fingerplate) to hold the top fingerplate closed - so I can use standard fingerings for the altissimo register - just by lifting finger 1 instead of rolling down to uncover the peforation as finger 2 holds the top plate fully closed.
It's a pretty simple addition involving a couple of silver soldered joints, the adjusting screw is fitted to the E/B vent key and an underlever is fitted to the top plate, and it doesn't knacker any other notes that I can think of. And there's enough adjustment for it to be fully disengaged as well.
And while this was being done I had an adjusting screw fitted to the pillar to regulate the top fingerplate venting (which is much easier than sanding the cork down), and a bar fitted from the C#/G# cup to the lower main action long Bb connection to give a B-C#/F#-G# trill.
