 pieces for a clarinet choir

Hey guys, I'm in woodwind ensemble playing first clarinet this semester and so far my clarinet choir is currently playing two pieces for a chamber concert. Are there any suggestions that you can think of that my group can play?

check the catalog of works. There's approximately 'one billions' records (to quote a movie).

If you want a long list of Clarinet Choir material, e-mail me and I can get that to you. There's an amazing amount of material out there, with more coming along. Our Cl.Choir has been building its library over 5 years and we've got lots that hasn't been opened yet. When each of us travels and checks out the music stores we find lots of material - some really good and some duds. But each ensemble has to choose its material based on abilities and tastes.

In order to give you suggestions we'd need to know what level your players are, and if you have Eb soprano, Eb alto, or any contras.

What is your email address Brenda? I would be interested in it. My clarinet choir consists of nine members, three 1st clarinets, three 2nd clarinets, and three 3rd clarinet players.

I'll contact you off the board. If you can get any of the members to sub on another kind of clarinet, that would open up a much wider selection of music. Do you think anyone's game?

I just edited my profile and an update of my email address so you can contact me :) Unfortunately, we only have 9 Bb soprano clarinet players.

I've sent an e-mail with a few selections from our folder plus an Excel attachment of others, but there's so much out there. Check the internet and be aware of checking out music stores during your vacation travels.

Someone in your choir could very well have the initiative to learn to double on another clarinet if you just give them the idea - maybe even you! Some high schools actually have contra clarinets or Eb altos or Eb sopranos that are unused. The instruments probably would need some repair, but they're great additions to a clarinet choir. That would expand the repertoire available to you.

You could give some thought to occasional coaching from a local clarinet professional as well. He or she would have input in how you sound from outside the group, the audience's perspective. They could have some connections with those who have extra instruments. Contact a local university or the musician's union or orchestra for professional players.

Have fun and let us know your progress!
