On my Selmer 9 I'm using a Vandoren B45. I was using my wife's Hite, but then she wanted it back.....
As I understand it, the Selmer 9 is a relatively wide bore. Should I be using a mouthpiece designed for wide bore instruments?
On my alto I use a VAndoren B40 (but then I own my own alto so must be a nerd!)

fserra, --How is articulation on your gigliotti? Is the response ever slugglish? I played on a P with V12 3 1/2's or 4's (can't remember) and always felt that I was fighting against something when tonguing. Also, I found projection limited compared to my M15 I use now. Of course, I had my Gigliotti up until three years ago and I have improved a lot since then so it may not be a matter of my equipment, but I wondered if anyone had shared my experience with the Gigliotti P. I did like the deep and "velvety" sound it is described to have, and which it really does have. I want to try a Richard Hawkins as well as a Pomarico Emeral or Ruby facing so I can possibly get one of these for Christmas.
**For now, I am happy (although unsatisfied) with my M15 and V12 #4 reeds. Hopefully in college I will learn to make my own reeds (over a summer or something).

My mouthpiece changes more often than gas prices. But as for reeds, I tend to stick to the tried and true Gonzalez. If I get a deal on another brand, I'll take it, but if I just need a box, I make sure to order FOF reeds. And the style/type of mouthpeices I usually end up playing almost always require a size 3.5 - 4.0 FOF reed (right now using size 3.75)

I use a Bonade mouthpiece that my teacher Randall Spicer gave me in the 1950's. I use a Bonade Ligature and Legere Quebec Cut #3 reeds and Vandoreb V-12 21/2 or 3's depending on the room and the music.

Dear Chris; My clarinet is a 15mm Pete Fountain cylindrical (sp) bore (Dynamic H model old Leblanc is what he used to play) and I really like it. If the end of the mpc is the smallest in bore diameter of the length of the clarinet, then I like it. I want to tongue and multiple tongue as easy as I used to on the alto sax (there was something wrong with the air column of the tenor sax, on the other hand, you can't double tongue on it). The feeling is openness. But watch those left hand upper clarion notes. You don't want them to be too unstable, wild, or unfirm while I like the big and fat long pipe tones of the lower clarion register with this setup. The Best, Ken Mills

I switch back and forth - Vandoren B45 or Borbeck. Have a Pomarico crystal "jazz" mouthpiece that I'm not quite used to using.
I use Gonzales reeds, #2-1/4. Perfect for my Trad Jazz!

Weird, I tried the Genussa and it really didn't work out for me.
I have an M13 sounds somewhat bright but my teacher told me to use it. I personally think the B45 has a nice rounder sound but oh well....
I use V12 #3 1/2 reeds.

I had been using Gonzalez FOF 3.5 reeds for about 6 months, and I was liking the darker woodier sound, but they were also less consistent and sometimes less responsive. I've been having pretty good luck having switched back to the Vandorens, but I think it's going to be an ongoing battle. The Vandorens I find more responsive, but a little too bright for my liking -- although moving up to a 4.5 has taken care of the brightness issue. I'd definitely recommend the RH moutpiece. I feel like I'm getting many more playable reeds out of the box (of every brand) with it as opposed to the Vandoren (forgetting the model) mouthpiece I was using previously.

but now found out Vandorens B40 give a much nicer sound, so currently testing some.
Reeds : V12, #3 or #35
On bass, mp = Selmer E
reeds : Vandoren Java or V16 #3/3.5 (tenor sax reeds)

I'm also currently using Gigliotti P with FOF 3.5. The combination provides a sweet, velvety, etherial, almost Ricardo Morales, tone quality.
However, I'm finding the resistance tiring, so I've ordered on trial a couple Hawkins, Fobes, and Pynes, Lomax. I'd like to retain the tone quality, but reduce the amount of resistance. Maybe such is possible, maybe not. I'm searching, though.
Oh, for trying mouthpieces and matching them to reed hardness, I've got an assortment of Legere that I can switch quickly. Then when I have the hardness range, I try the mouthpiece with cane reeds.

Vandoren B45 with Traditional and V12 3.5's.
I like both of the reeds equally, each seems to have their own advantage and sound on different days and for different applications. The mouthpiece is nice and open, and extremely responsive in the altissimo register, yet nice and round in the low notes. The throat tones are a little buzzy though.
I just might have to try one of those Hite Artist J mouthpieces though.

Mitchell Lurie older M3 moughpieces(3) with V12 #3 reeds. A new ML M3 mouthpiece bought cheaply on eBay seemed to be made by machine without hand finishing and did not compete with the older ML mouthpieces that I love so much.

Gosh Sakes and Gee Whiz - What a variety of choices, I looked to see if I had posted, about time I do so, not bragging I hope. Playing more bass and alto than sop, I prefer Pomarico glass/crystal s, 2 old, refaced [by D S] GG's for bass, their #3 mellow for alto. For sop I have many, most are at least good, some great. I recently worked on an older M Lurie M4 [hello Wes!], which is great for my Selmer CT. A good cl-mp f[r]iend asked me to try to find an older Sel B facing [Very close?], but the nearest ones [on chart] I could find are a Johnston-Selmer, an HS* [refaced?] and a C*. For his trials, I'm including an old H Couf Special, an old Bettoney [a ?Ched?], an Nemc G8 [3 lines below!]. If anyone knows more about some of these, please speak up, I have a couple of Penzel Muellers for my F B, and several glasses, most refaced. What a group, hard to pick only one at a time! Don

Clark Fobes San Francisco CF+, Rigotti Gold 4-medium (but I think the 4-soft might work better).
Until just recently, I was using V12 #4 with this mouthpiece, and a quick look shows a few people with the exact combination. What are the odds? Probably pretty high, if it works.
