I am currently teaching clarinet players in grades 7 thru
10. I am interested in solo and small ensemble literature for this age group. Please send me titles, publishers, or places to look for any pieces which would be both educational and fun for students this age.

A fun song I played when I was in high was Clarinet on the Town. This piece is jazzy and its fun! Other more serious pieces, which I did for Regionals were Intro, Theme, and Variations by Rossini, Saint-Saens Sonata, and Mozart's Clarinet Concerto. Another piece was the Weber Concertino. For ensembles, you can use the duets from the Voxman Duet Books I and II.

I think most of those pieces would be too hard, especially for the lower end of the continuum.
You could try some of the clarinet/piano arrangements of songs from musicals and movies (a number of them from Cats are good and are challenging enough.
Clare Grundman has a number of pieces for clarinet trio, quartet and clarinet choir that are probably well within their skill level.For the top end players, I would try the Trio Quebecois by Lucio Agstoni--great arrangement of French-Canadian folk songs--all three parts are challenging.

These are some intermediate solos I have had success with:
Debussy/Hite- Girl with the Flaxen Hair, Debussy- The Little Negro, Handel/Lurie-Sonata in g Minor, Diabelli/Hite- Introduction and Rondo, Mozart/Voxman-Alleluja from Exsultate Jubilate, Stocks- Wessex Pastorale, Tartini/Jacob- Concertino, Vinci/Waln-Sonata No. 1, Mozart/Bellison-Divertimento in Bb, Mozart/Waln-Waltz Fantasy.
Easier ones for the 7th graders are:
Amani/Hite- Ancient Minuet, Langenus- Chrysalis, Langenus- Mount Vernon Minuet, Lowery- Vakse and Volante, Bach/Kent-Arioso from Cantata 156, Hovey/Leonard-Minuetto, Buchtel-Serenade.
I am sure others can add more.

Hello !
Okay, Right now my band is playing "Variations"- John Barnes Chance, " Little Fugue" - Johann Sebastian Bach, and "Guardians of Peace" - James L.Hosay. These pieces have AWESOME clarinet parts, I play clarinet 1 and they are amazing. Yes, challenging at first, but soo worth it. For NYSMAA, I am playing Sonantina" ( is that spelt right ? ) by Philip Gordon. It's a cute song. Good luck Some other cool songs are " Where never lark or eagle sings", and " Choral and Shaker Dance " - I'm not sure the composer but it's a great song !

The "Three's a crowd series" are a great set of trio books ranging from very easy (Junior A and B) to reasonable (Books 1 and 2) to quit hard (Book 3). There is also book 4 which is a Christmas selection. The books are available separtly for all woodwind trios and are compatable. They are edited by James Power. I am 16 and in year 11 and I run a junior clarinet choir for years 7 to 9 clarinetists of between Associated Board grades 1 and 4, they enjoy some of the more grownup pieces from the junior book and the easiest pieces from book 1. The advanced woodwind group which I play in use book 3 which I find quite easy but some of the younger ones find difficult. If you have mixed ability be careful neither to scare the less able players or bore the more advanced ones. My teacher sometimes arranges the piano accompianment of solos for most of the group and gives either me or Lizzie who plays first flute a solo.
