our local thrift store has a clarinet for sale. It is wood and looks in excellent condition, even the pads look wonderful. the case that it is in, says buffet. the horn itself doesnt have buffet on it. on the bell, it says paris and it looks like they tried to stamp it, but it didnt take. but there is a "F" and i can't remember if the last letter was there or not. i found that buffet has a festival clarinet, could this be one? or do they all say buffet on them? i'm looking for a buffet for my daughter, she just started playing. thanks!

I guess it partly depends on the price - even thrift stores are clever enough to look up background info of potentially valuable items. What did you say the price was...?
One of our local thrift stores had a Buffet for roughly 2000 dollars...go figure. (I didn't even check out what exact model it was, as the price was far beyond of my financial reach)

Look at the two main joints, the ones with the keys on. Ignore the barrel, the bell, the case. Ignore the mouthpiece most of all.
If the two main joints aren't marked Buffet, it ain't a Buffet.
If your daughter has just started playing, unless she's some sort of prodigy, she doesn't need a Buffet Festival, which is one of the most expensive instruments on the market.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.
To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.
