Today, I was washing a load of laundry. Moving them from the washer to the dryer, what should I find? Not one, but two reeds (now both quite broken). As I finished loading the clothes into the dryer, it occured to me that I've found reeds in most rooms in my house.
I'd like to think it means that playing clarinet (and related instruments) has completely overtaken my life to the point that it's inescapable.
I'd like to think that, but it probably just means I'm messy.

With me, it's not finding clarinet items (as I tend to keep these, although not my room, VERY organized), however I can tell that I'm definitely a bit of a musical freak of nature.
The other day at work there was a motor that was next to me that was grinding and creating this "squealing" sound. Squeaking every now and then. I found myself not only trying to find a musical pattern, and trying to figure out what interval jumps were being "played" by the rubbing metal parts, but (and this is the sad part), trying to figure out what instrument it sounded closest to, and whether I could replicate it's sound either with one or more instruments (the closest I got would be to have a flute and trumpet playing in perfect unison to get a blend that would be similar to it's sound)

I wonder if Sammy Nestico had that motor in mind when writing trumpet/flute unison passages?

just wait until you start finding clarinets you've forgotten about , in drawers, closets, etc

I guess I've gone over that edge, Paul...
I always forget what I've got.
Good thing, though, that that doesn't really happen to me with reeds, since I play Legeres and to find that many of them scattered about would represent a massive amount of money!

Finding whole clarinets? That's definitely a long way off. I have two clarinets and don't see myself getting a third for a long while.

As a teenager, my mother would find guitar picks everywhere. Now, if we can just figure out how the washer/dryers can create money.
