 Geyer Adorf clarinet
Author: Bill Pate

I have my great-great grandfather's clarinet that he brought to the US from the Thuringen Forest area of Germany c. 1860. He played it in the German Army band and again here during the Civil War. It is made of a light-brown wood I presume to be pearwood and has ivory rings around the tenons and bell. Its only markings are a hand stamp that reads "Geyer Adorf". Any information anyone can supply about this instrument would be greatly appreciated.

No info here but it sounds like a most amazing instrument!

What a great piece of your family's history!

A quick Google indicates that both Geyer and Adorf are towns. Personal opinion wood may be boxwood?

These names are not listed in either of Al Rice's books or by Rendall. I'd suggest asking this question on "EarlyClarinet@Yahoogroups.com" where our antique collectors congregate. Like with my mid 1800's English Horn by Hammer, minor maker info may be hard to unearth. Luck, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
