I've had my attention drawn to a boxwood clar by Button and Whitaker, London and wondered if any one has access to Groves Vol 1 page 427, where it is said, resides information about this manufacturer/retailer. If so, can they help with a synopsis ?
New to early clarinets, I would appreciate any brief advice/comments
about these instruments from experts in the field. I know value relates to
condition and history etc but am otherwise ignorant of this area.
I did run a brief search on B and W here, but no luck.
Regards and thanks,
BobT

Bob - I'm sure we have a few readers/posters here [not me] who can help you. Your best bet would be to go to "EarlyClarinet@yahoogroups.com" and ask this question. I'll look in Groves tomorrow at our local library and see what they may say. I'll also look in Al Rice's fine book, Cl in Classical Period, which might have more info than Groves !! Luck, Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

Actually in my copy of Grove's it's Vol. 3, p. 523. Identifies B & W as music publishers 1808-1824 in London. No mention of them being in the instrument business. They are said to have published great quantities of popular songs, flute music, glees, country music and sacred music.
