There have been many comments on this BB regarding the difficulty in making a full time vocation of the clarinet. However, it has been more than a year since Caroline Hartig left to go to Michigan State and still the clarinet faculty position at Ball State University remains unfilled and will for another year, it seems.

Is this an unusual circumstance...is Ball State simply being ponderously careful in its search...or is there a shortage of top flight clarinet performace teachers? No personal involvement, just curious.

I would think that having previous experience teaching at the college level as a minimum prerequisite is going to seriously limit their potential applicant pool.

There probably is also an opening at the Cincinnati Conservatory since Steve Cohen went to Northwestern this fall. Could be a good time for clarinet professors all around.
