Dead skin and air stream question
Author: bflatclarinetist

After my practice sessions I always seen to have this kind of dried up white line over this ONE tone hole, I always just have to scratch it off but I'm getting a bit concerned about it. My teacher says it's dead skin cells, but I'm not sure how that could happen.

My other question is if there are any ways or excercises to make my air stream more focused because I can hear my sound "streching out" sometimes, I would like to have a nice focused air stream so I can have a nice centered sound. I was reading about the coffee stirer method but I wasn't sure if that'd help. Thanks!

For the dead skin, wash your hands vigourously if you can before you play, with an exfoliating soap. That should help with that. For focusing the airstream, think of ooo with the throat and eee with the tongue. This will keep your throat open and get a nice tight focus to the sound.
