 Difference in Zinner Blanks
Author: RodRubber

Who can explain to me the difference between the various Zinner Blanks? Especially the "E Model" high baffle Version. Which one has the more Scooped Baffle? Which one has the most lively sound?

as no one has tried to help you here, i'll have a go (my info might be out of date)
the A style mouthpiece (with 2+1 lines) has a deeper baffle and (if i remember correctly) a slight "double concave" shape in the baffle- ie it has both lengthwise and widthwise concavity in the baffle. However the widthwise concavity is slight, mainly near the throat and not as pronounced as, say, a Vandoren M series blank.
the E style mouthpiece (1+1 lines on the blank) has a less pronounced "lengthwise" concavity, and no "widthwise" concavity (though these differences as very slight).
there may be other differences (bore etc), and someone may choose to dispute these generalisations......
playing wise these transfer to the following (non scientific generalisations in colloq)(ie may mean nothing)-
A type= sounds fabulous in the clarion but you have to try a bit harder in the lower register for body/ring balance
E type= overall more ring, making low register very present and pwerful and the clarion sings... but not as much "body"

i'm sure someone will disagree with this, but it is based on my experience and that of several US players/refacers who i've discussed this with over the years.
hope this was helpful- do take it with a grain of salt.

Where exactly do the "parallel" side walls and "angled" side walls of the chamber on the Zinners relate to these two models of blanks?

both the A and E blank come with parallel side walls- i believe that the angled side wall blank has an A type baffle.... i've got one somewhere, i'll check it out and post later on. To my knowledge the "angled side wall" blanks only come in one type.....
btw where is the best place to get these now? does IMS still carry stock?
