I have been recently searching for a new clarinet. My teacher uses a Buffet, which she told me was an Evette Schaeffer, I have played it but never examined it closely. I came across an Evette Schaeffer Master Model listed on Witchita Band Instrument Company's web site with detailed pictures (still listed) clearly showing Evette Schaeffer & Master Model stamped both on the barrel and on the upper section. This model has a K serial number.
I have studied the threads on the bulletin board and knew that K serial numbers were only associated with Evette Schaeffers and also there were theories and controversy that some ES Master Models were downgraded R13's. I took a detailed look at my teachers horn and found the serial number was 95xxx. Looking this number up on Buffet web site it only comes up as a professional model 1967, which jives with when it was bought. Evette Schaeffer Master Model is stamped only on the barrel on this clarinet and is the original one that came with it. This seems to add evidence that some R13's were downgraded at some time in the manufacturing process to ES Master Models, but those stamped Evette Schaeffr Master Model on the upper section and barrel were not downgraded R13's.
