I was told in a music shop yesterday that as of November, Glotin will no longer be manufacturing single reeds, only double reeds. Can anyone verify this rumour? There are no clues on their website.

Don't worry, Van Doren is still around !!
I must be risking my life on this BBoard, because VD is not really the most popular ? ;o)
By the way, Glotin was 'in' some years ago over here, now it seems to be 'out', maybe that's why ?

I think a lot of people on this BBoard are using Vandoren reeds, so belgianclarinet, you'll have protection

VD is the most popular and basically "the standard".
But as you well know even with instruments, there are many who have left the "standard" for
something better

It that's true about Glotin, I'm sorry to hear it! Maybe soprano clarinetists overwhelmingly prefer Vandorens, but when you get into the larger clarinets and saxophones, alternatives are needed -- and Glotins have proven to work very well on many instruments, for me at least.

If it only relates to their bass reeds, then fine, as they sound thin and weedy. But they make excellent clarinet reeds and it would be a shame if they decided to stop making them.

As long as they keep making/supplying their leather pads, then I'm happy.

I'm using VD Java and V16 Tenor Sax on Bass, and that's seems to be much better than their Bass reeds.

I'm very happy with my soprano reeds (#3) so I'll try to buy a box before they stop to produce them.
