Does anyone know of a good piece written for wind ensemble and solo clarinet? In other words a Clarinet Concerto not for orchestra but for band!

Are you looking to play all of the pieces you're asking about? Have you asked your teacher for suggestions? Be aware that any piece for band is going to be <b>expensive</b> since you have to buy all the parts.
Check at <a href=http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/Study/BandMusic.html><b>http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/Study/BandMusic.html</b></a> for suggested band pieces - the ones starred have very good clarinet parts in them. I don't think any would be considered a "concerto for band" but many of them are very challenging.
There are a few transcriptions for band that I've heard - check out Robert Spring's "Dragon's Tongue" CD to listen to a number. I also heard Bob do the Poulenc Sonata transcribed for band at a ClarinetFest a few years back.

Other solos that I have just found are the Concertino for Clarinet and Band by Bencriscutto, F; publisher Kjos Music Company. There is also and arrangement of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto Rondo for Clarinet and Band arranged by Casteel and published by Kendor Music. Both of these are Grade 4-5.

Yes! In fact, my band is playing such a piece for a concert next week. Have you heard of "Introduction, theme and variations" by, - Oops! I can't remember. I'll post another message later when I have the full info. Hold your breath!

Concertino by Carl Mari von Weber has a band arrangement. If you go into the clarinet archives and search under Concertino and band - you will get a lot of hits. Some of these will have lists of clarinet solo pieces with band arrangements and others will let you know what various people think of these arrangements.

Nice thought from Judy, I forgot about that one. I think the one I was thinking of was by Liszt, but I'm not sure - I'll put in another reply when I remember to find out what we're performing next week!!

Our solo clarinet did a great piece called "Clarinet on the Town" by a guy called Herman. It was Grade 6/7 Associated Board Standard. The band parts were fairly simple but the audience loved it!

Rimsky-Korsakov did write a Concertpiece in Eb maj. for clarinet & band. Not one of his best efforts ...

Sorry I'm a bit late. Yes, my band is doing a piece called "Introduction, Theme and Variations" by Rossini. It sounds a bit classical, but it is arranged for wind band. Our soloist though is a professional, since the solo part is a very difficult and technical part. Hope all this has helped.
