Pizzacato accuracy vs tonguing accuracy

While listening to WQXR lately, I've noticed that when string players play pizzicato, they're never really spot on with each other, and always have a few early plucks and a few late ones, while when the wind instruments play a staccato note together, it's always DEAD ON!!!

I'm wondering whether it's simply because there are so many more string players than wind instruments that it's making it that much harder for them to get it together, or if it's because wind instruments practice tonguing a whole lot more than string players practice pizzicato technique. A combo maybe? Penny for your thoughts . . .

Perhaps you need to listen to better string players.

Maybe the individual players use different versions of the pizzicato
