To answer Donald here:
I don't think I can identify Joe Muranyi from my collection. I have a compilation CD of material from various periods and some of Louis's obviously later ''Cabaret'' period may have an unidentified JM on it.

He seems quite a good player from the very short bites I listened to.

Muranyi joined Louis and the All Stars regularly around 1967.
First recording seems to be an appearance on the US TV program, "The Tonight Show" on May 11, 1967. They played Hello Dolly and Mame.
Murannyi played on Louis' recordings of Disney tunes, which are available on CD.
He stayed with Louis pretty much until the last known appearance on the "Tonight Show," March 1, 1971, when they played Pretty Little Missy and Blueberry Hill.
Armstrong died on July 6, 1971
Aside from the All Stars standards of the time, Muranyi played on Armstrong's intriguing italian dates (12/11 and 12/12/67) under the heading, "Louis Armstrong e i suoi solisti." They recorded four titles for the italian market that have never appeared on CD since their release on 45 rpm records (far as I know): "Mi Va Di Cantare," "Dimi Dimi Dimi," "Grassa e Bella," and "Farfalina."
I'd love to hear Louis singing in Italian - does anyone have these recordings?

on the Silverstein recording he plays really really musically, and while there are some pretty fast licks going down it is a pleasure to hear lots of MUSIC rather than lots of NOTES.

ps- the Silverstein album sounds like there were having quite some party at the recording session. Shel uses "Steinway kazoos exclusively".
