Minnesota Colleges

I'm wondering if anyone can give me information on the music programs of Minnesota private colleges. I am most interested in Carleton Collge, a wonderful liberal arts school. I have toured it, and in the interview, I found out that I can take lessons in any instrument that I want and they have instruments that I can use/rent (such as bass cl, contra alto or bass cls, Ebs...), but I'm wondering about the quality of the programs. I'm not majoring in music, but I plan to be involved with the music program.

My son is just starting his freshman year at University of Minnesota - Morris, one of the top-rated public liberal arts colleges in the country. And he's going to either major or minor in music. They have a very highly-regarded jazz program at Morris. Check it out!

I don't know about private schools. But Bemidji State University in Bemidji, MN...my home town...has a good music program. Not sure about the new clarinet teacher. Use to be Dr. Gergory Oaks who I studied with, who was a amazing teacher. It's a good school if your looking to go into music and don't have the money to really pay for college. I'm going to be a freshman there but we could use some good clarinet players.

St. Olaf would be another private Minnesota College to consider. They have a very serious music department. I have a lot of friends who are involved with the program there, and they're all top notch.

Augsburg would be another good choice, especially if you wanted to be in the Twin Cities area. They have some outstanding music department faculty.

Both of these institutions have many faculty members who are out in the community doing a lot of performing. They do, and they teach.
