Cork Padding...

I'm a firm believer that cork padding is probably the best way, having cork padded all my previous instruments down to the cross B/F# key (or even the Ab/Eb key on Leblancs and even the F#/C# on Eb clarinets) and leather pads for the lower keys.

As long as the bed places have no imperfections and the pads are perfectly seated I can get the whole instrument completely air tight when compared to an instrument padded with skin or leather pads, therefore more responsive and with a very crisp staccato. The only downside to cork pads is that they are noisy if played with heavy fingers, but they are easier to regulate and more positive in their action being either open or closed - not the spongy feel that the softer skin or leather pads have, and they stay flat, as well as lasting a lot longer through use.

Anyone else share my point of view?

And I've noticed it's only been fairly recently that manufacturers have been gradually adding more and more cork pads since the 1990s.
