Has anyone on this board had any experience with the new Yamaha YCL G series clarinets, with either silver-plated keys or Hamilton Keys? If so, I'd appreciate your comments. In particular, I'd be interested in knowing how it handles as a jazz instrument. Thanks.

Yeah, I had one on trial. I tried the silver keys and the hamilton keys and the silver keys sounded better for me. BUT, although the instrument has a lovely tone, some tend to have bad intonation (horribly flat E4, etc.). Some people on the BBoard love there's though. I returned the clarinet due to some of the awkward intonation and am on the clarinet search. One of the people from Backun said that famous clarinet players who bought there CSG's aren't anymore due to intonation issues, etc. Also the barrel is very short and it is harder to find a different barrel if you want one (although you can contact Bob Scott, or email Yamaha and they can send you different barrels to try).
As a jazz instrument, I doubt it would be a good one. It has a very dark and deep tone, more for hard core classical. Maybe try a Pete Fountain Big Easy or a Leblanc Artley for a jazz clarinet. Check the archives for a good jazz model that will do good with chamber music as well. Might only need a jazz faced mp or a closer tip mp for chamber music.
