Here's yet another article, and a new edition of a book on musicians' injuries. The author counted 5,144 snare drum taps in Ravel's Bolero. The drummer's response: "You need to get a hobby."

Mark - the book should be added to the Musicians' Injuries list: Janet Horvath, "Playing (Less) Hurt: An Injury Prevention Guide for Musicians." It's self-published. Horvath is assistant principal cellist in the Minnesota Orchestra, and has a site at http://www.playinglesshurt.com/.

Reminds me of the line in that Beatles song "A Day in the Life" about "now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall" --- for those of us old enough to remember the Beatles.................

Clearly, if you look at any promotional shots, GBK, the walrus is definitely John. (sorry, just had to say it--while counting snare taps isn't my hobby, being a college student with a Beatle obsession is.)
But to get back on topic...it was a very interesting article. The author sounds like any member of my family, honestly. There's a few musicians in it, and we seem to attract all the injuries.

To stay off topic one final time:
Actually, better proof would be Lennon's 1970 solo album Plastic Ono Band when he sings, "I was the Walrus, but now I'm John."
Also, read Lennon's 1980 Playboy interview and McCartney's 1981 interview after a Beatles documentary, where they both describe this inside joke ...GBK (who also has a pretty vast knowledge of Beatles history)

After playing Bolero Ringo would shout "I got blisters on my fingers!"

When I was in college there was a drummer with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. He could do a several minute long snare drum pattern with amazing accuracy and was a great player. I always wondered how much pain he was in when he played stuff like that.
