I'm sure some of you saw my last post called "Makeshift Galper?". I am currently obsessed with trying to recreate this effect on an old Artley plastic clarinet whose features will make this modification easier to achieve. I have access to materials which may be suitable for adding onto or potentially even replacing the current vent tube, but what I need to know now is--Do the physical dimensions (most importantly--bore diameter) of the replacement vent tube match those of the stock tube, both on the inside as well as the outside of the bore? What is the bore diameter of this thing and does it stay constant? And how long does it extend outside of the bore? After finding the perfect materials and a way to put it all together, the next step will be modifying the register key pad and/or the register key itself. Thank you for your info/advice/help!

Tyler, Didn't our comments to your earlier "Galper" get your research under way? I'd suggest reading his patent, buying one of his "solutions" and measuring it, consulting our good books and looking at the various register vent tubes made by Selmer, Leblanc, Buffet , Yamaha and others. While Mazzeo and McIntyre et al used various means to produce better throat notes, Stubbins, to me, was the most successful in combining tone holes and mechanisms for best tonalities, even tho the use of his concepts mainly now exist only on our larger clarinets. Further research is and will be appreciated, but much is now known, and it makes a starting point for you, I believe. Good luck, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

If I had the money I would buy a Galper mechanism and put it on my R13 and not even bother with the Artley. I guess I could look at his patent.
