That Rhapsody in Blue topic had reminded me of a question I've been always wanting to ask profesisonals. How do you play that solo opening? I tried that piece many years back when I was a younger clarinetist but somehow I couldn't get that sound we should make for the opening. I even forgot what the technical name is for in the opening clarinet solo for Rhapsody. Tried playing the solo line myself in my youth orchestra but some of us clarinetists couldn't get that sound for the opening. How do you do that?

Here is a great moment to learn the gliss from a professional in a private lesson...this is a very important solo and you have to do this one well because it sets up an entire piece of music1
