I have in my possession an old wooden clarinet, stamped with the name 'Willi KEYLWERTH'
*NAUHEIM*
Can anybody shed a little light on the maker or perhaps the age of this instrument? Any info at all would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS

The Keilwerth Saxophone factory is located in Nauheim, Germany. Julius Keilwerth came from a line of instrument makes and had several brothers. When the original Julius Keilwerth factory opened in 1925, they made all of the woodwind insturments. By the time WWII rolled around, they were making something like twenty-five to fifty thousand instruments. For obvious reasons, they had to stop production breifly during the war. When they resumed, the only kept making saxophones.

Now, the insturment you have is spelled slightly differently, I would check the spelling. I do know of aother line of saxophones called Richard Keilwerth, a younger brother of Julius I believe.

That's all I have.

There was also the clarinet makers Richard Keilwerth whose clarinets (German, Oehler and Boehm systems) carry this logo:

Julius Keilwerth, saxophone makers of fame, today are belonging to the Buffet Crampon holding, see http://www.julius-keilwerth.com/en/about-us/ . Their address: Buffet Crampon Germany, Gewerbepark 52-54 08258 Markneukirchen – Germany

Richard Keilwerth, Gelnhausen still offers a range of clarinets: http://www.keilwerth.de/index.php/home/herstellung/preisliste-download .

Both Keilwerth workshops/ factories and families originated from Graslitz/ Kraslice, Bohemia, and after war and displacement resettled in West Germany, Nauheim resp. Gelnhausen. Julius K., as mentioned above, is now (btw. like Schreiber) only a brand of Buffet Crampon group and established in Markneukirchen.
Other Keilwerths (Keylwerth) like Willi, or Max are mentioned someplace, but I couldn't find more information. They must have been a widespread family in Bohemia.
