 Inverted oleg?

What's inverted mean? I ordered an olegature and people all have different opinions on how to use it. What is the manufacturer's way? Also, I heard about breaking screws. Is this true or is it if your just really harsh with it? ALSO...which method do you prefer and which one scratches m/p less?

i played on a gold plated olegature a few years ago. i probably originally bought it because it was flashy and at the time it seemed like the cool thing to do. it ended up being a very good lig though. the ligature is meant to be used inverted, or with the screws on the top of the mouthpiece, as opposed to the "normal" screw position of most stock ligatures. thats how ive always seen these ligatures used and thats how i positioned it when i played with one.

i never had my screws break, but they did wear down to the point where i needed to replace them. many people have had their screws break, but its not that huge of a deal since standard ligature screws seem to fit (i took the screws off of an old brass alto sax lig that i don't use to replace the original ones). i would highly suggest that you put a clear mouthpiece patch on top of your mouthpiece. not only will this prevent the mouthpiece from getting all scratched up (and trust me IT WILL), but it will also help to keep the ligature from slipping when you have to change clarinets quickly.

i eventually replaced my oleg with a BG super revelation. its just easier to put on and, to my ears, it seems to give me a more compact sound. the oleg is currently at number 2 in my ligature line up.

Clarisax is absolutely right....the Oleg is meant to be inverted. Some pictures I've seen have wrongly shown it with the screws on the bottom against the reed. Not right. Purpose of the Oleg is to have the mesh against the reeds for proper vibration. They are truly great ligs, though I'm still partial to velcro.
