Doesn't know where to get reeds? That's kind of sad ;they sell them at almost every music store. Even at this piano store near my house they sell them!

I have had that experience. In fact, the first day they blow on a clarinet I talk about "the black stuff". I find some real-life comparisons, it usually prevents it from ever occurring on a reed.

I have always found it amusing that a kid will stick a mold ridden disgusting piece of alien life form infested cane in their mouth, but are absolutly disgusted by the teaching blowing a few notes on their set up to test their equipment. In fact, i have had students quit because i insisted on blowing a few notes on their mouthpiece to see if they were just horrible, or if, in fact, they had a bad reed or something.
